Let the Games Begin

Today, we planned a "home day" and I was SO excited for the Olympics to start and wanted to get the kids excited too!  So, I decided we would have our very own "olympics party day".

First, we started off the day with Olympics "ring" baked apple chips and a recipe from Pinterest for Blueberry and Orange glaze doughnuts...in typical Kendra fashion, I didn't read ahead, I didn't have a doughnut pan so I improvised and..well, my doughnuts quickly turned into muffins ;)  But, they were still super tasty!  Thank you Pinterest.
and made my kitchen look like this before 9am!

the kids loved the special treats and were soon ready to help me make some decorations for the Opening Ceremonies tonight.  First, we painted olympic ring banners...Blake loved it and really took his time each ring or color exactly where he wanted them.

Piper?  Well, she had fun!

gotta love that post-pig tail hair ;)

After we painted, we were ready for our FIRST Olympic game!  Water balloon bulls-eye!  Blake LOVED it!  And, he got a BULLS-EYE!

Next, Bubbles Popping Contest

We were done playing out front and about ready to head to the back, but first the kids wanted a drink of water.  So, in good ol' American fashion, they tried drinking from the hose.

Their bellies were hungry and Blake's imagination was RUNNING wild!  Pretty soon, I lost control of my "planned activities" and let him run with it.  Which turned into...

the view from atop their snack shack

ready for his swimming meet!

and, this is what happens when instead of "no" I think "why not"?

The olympics WORE the kids OUT!

Piper fell asleep WHILE eating!

Then, this evening when Brian got home we all went on a family bike ride to one of our NEW favorite Parks!  "firefighter park".  There was lots of swinging and sliding.  On the way home I saw (regrettably) my first snake of the season :(  EEEWWW!  Anyone who knows me, knows I DO.NOT.LIKE.SNAKES!
This snake was TINY and looked like a spot of melted-into-the-sidewalk gum, until it moved!  I called Blake over to see it, but before he could get there, it slithered (ew) under the cement.

ever tried to swing HIGH and get a pic of your feet in the air without falling over backwards?!  Yup, I did..nope, NOT easy!

look close - see that man jumping from his swing, that's my hubby, he's 4  years old at heart

SEE why Blake LOVES this park!  Everything is RED, everything is FIRETRUCK RELATED and everything is HUGE!

Home for dinner, a beer and the Opening Ceremonies complete with popcorn and our AWESOME Olympics Banner made with love by Blake!

I am super excited about the Olympics!  Swimming, beach volleyball, and gymnastics are my TOP choices.  But, I want to catch as much as we can!

GO USA!
