Yesterday we set out on our annual trip to see the beautiful fall colors in CO. We always go to a spot called "Guanella pass" and you go from 285 to Georgetown. In the past, we finish in Georgetown and take a picnic lunch and let Blake play at the park there. It is one of the best parks I know of! We had a BLAST!
Blake and I climbed down a rock wall and played near a waterfall.
We found amazing scenery and took some great pictures with our new camera (see sample below but we have SO many more amazing shots)
Brian played with his new toy
We got a family picture, which is a success within itself with a 3 year old, a 5 month old and a tripod (no one behind the camera making noises or faces) BUT we also got the shot on our first attempt - nothing short of a miracle ;)
We went into Georgetown and played, played, played
then - it was time to go. Blake didn't want to leave and went limp while Brian held his arm. Afterwards, he stood up and was crying. It was a different type of cry, more calm that normal. We thought he was just tired, but it became increasingly clear that he was really hurt. He would not move it and held an ice pack on it the entire drive home from Georgetown! We knew something was up! So, off to Urgent Care we went. The Dr. there diagnosed Blake with nursemaids elbow and popped it back into place. We were told she felt the pop and it was likely he would be completely better within an hour or so. Time passed and the pain continued. Blake was laying on the couch and did not want to move his arm. Since he didn't nap we thought he was just tired. He went to sleep and woke up repeatedly through the night complaining of pain. Several phone calls later to try to determine why it would still be so painful and we all finally got some sleep! I really thought (and was hopeful) that once he woke up today he would be fine and the soreness would be gone. No such luck! Off to Urgent Care again and they referred us to Children's Hospital for better X-Rays to determine if a break was apparent. Lots of playing, books and crying later, X-rays revealed no break but a sprain in addition to the nursemaids which was healed yesterday. Which explains why he still has pain but not as severe. So, he has a splint for a week! MUCH better than a cast so we are thrilled!
Blake has been such a trooper through the whole ordeal. Watching him in so much pain and handling himself so well was very impressive. He is so tough and did such a great job, even at three, to help explain where it hurts and how it happened so we could help him. After the Dr. popped it in he said, "it still hurts bad but not really bad" and when we asked him what happened he said "it bent the wrong way hard". Both are great explanations of what happened! What an articulate little boy!
Those pictures are amazing! Makes me want to get in my car and just drive, but it's dark out so I will have to wait ;)
