Today was a day - not a good day, not a horrible day, but a day that I blinked and it was noon and my "to-do" list was staring at me saying "na na na na boo boo".
Fast forward to 6pm, "to-do" list just completed, Halloween costumes layed out and I start the ultra fun process of getting the kids into their garb and out the door to Foothills Trunk or Treat. It was something I was super excited about...another opportunity for the kids to have some fun in their get ups, get some loot and kill the evening while we await daddy's arrival home from a work trip.
Does anyone else ever get the feeling that there is a "fun sucking power" somewhere out there and it waits for the perfect, crazy, planned occasion to strike?
Welp, got the kids, camera, stroller, blankets all in the car and we made our way to the trick or treat spot...Blake was desperately looking around from a buddy from our MOPS group who was Captain America. When the first Captain America was not his buddy, he was bummed! It was FREEZING. Piper is sick. I forgot the super cool plastic pumpkin candy buckets in my mad rush to load the car, and the king soopers bag I had to substitute was a BIG pain. And, apparently he hates all chocolate! As he said "trick or treat" and the first passer outter handed him a 3 musketeers he rudely said "I dont like those" and walked off! Apparently, Blake wanted Sour Patch Kids! RUDE! So, we left. I wasn't gonna hassle two whiny, cold, sick, kids and force them to ask for candy. Blake wanted to "go later". So, as I explained to him there isn't a later. It is today and that is it...he just wanted to go home. So, we loaded in the car, cranked the heat UP and headed to target for a quick medicine grab for Piper, where Blake told me he thought we should go home, get the buckets and our big coats and try again. I like trying again. I hate having to end things on a bad note and I want the kids to have fun, (and apparently I am a sucker for punishment!) We packed up our car in the Target parking lot and as I went to get Blake in his seat, the door got stuck in that weird limbo where it isn't fully open but its not on the next notch and SLAMMED into Blake's head (and I mean SLAMMED). At that point, I comforted him and laughed. ARE YOU FREAKIN' KIDDING ME? Loaded the kids up, headed home to get buckets and coats, back out to Trunk or Treat and finally - FUN! We trick or treated! We said "thank you", walked away and then said "I will give that one to Piper" and we left with our fingers frozen and buckets full of sugar...
Happy Freakin' Halloween ;)
Kids in bed, hubby home - momma OUT!
